Saturday April 30, 2016 10 AM Walk Appalachian Trail & Lunch We will walk part of the Appalachian Trail, about one mile each way across Pochuck Valley; this part of the trail is a boardwalk. Sunday May 1, 2016  2 PM “Cabaret” & Dinner  Fairleigh Dickinson  Dreyfus Building, 285 Madison Ave., Madison, NJ.  "Cabaret" will be presented by the theater students.  Dinner will follow the show at a local restaurant at your expense.  Reservations for this event are now closed. Wednesday May 4, 2016  9AM Mercer Museum, Doylestown, PA This is a six story concrete castle completed   in 1916. It houses Henry Mercer's vast collection of early American everyday objects.  The cost will be $11 for seniors. We will have an early lunch at 11AM at the Porterhouse Grill in Lahaska, and then we will proceed to the museum. We will meet at Willowbrook in Wayne and park our cars behind Lord & Taylor bldg.  If time allows we can visit Peddler's Village in Lahaska, PA.  . Friday May 6, 2016 5:30 PM  Evita at Brundage Park Playhouse, Randolph Come join us to see the play Evita at the Brundage Playhouse, 2 Bungalow Lane, Randolph. Tickets are $15. At 5:30PM we will meet at the Randolph diner on RT 10 and Center Grove Rd., Randolph, for dinner; afterwards we will to go to the play. Saturday May 7, 2016 11 AM Sandy Hook Day at the Shore, Atlantic Highlands, NJ   Hike, bike or sit on the beach. Enjoy your choice of activity during our time at the beach – walk along the shore or path, sit in the sand or visit historic structures - then assemble for an early dinner. We will meet at Parking Lot D between 12:00 and 12:30 or, if you would like to ride share, meet at the Parsippany Park & Ride at Waterview Boulevard and Route 46 at 11AM. After assembling at the beach, we will eat our lunch, take a head count for dinner & then head out to enjoy the park. At 3:30 we will assemble for dinner.  Bring a light lunch, a drink as well as beach gear. Confirmation email will be sent during the week preceding the event. Wednesday May 11, 2016  9:45 AM Luna Parc & lunch Meet at 9:45AM at the parking lot on the Rte. 94 side of Lafayette Village.  We can share rides to Luna Parc for a 10:30 self guided tour.  Ricky, “the artist” of this very unusual house of art, will be available for questions.  If you would like to know more about Luna Parc, please visit http://www.lunaparc.com . I think this is just something that would be very fun to see. Some of his work is erotic in nature and stairs are involved.  So if that works for you, please join me and go “Down the Rabbit Hole”! Saturday May 14, 2016  11:45AM   Mangia Hoboken Food & Culture Tour  We will meet 11:45AM at the Dover train station, train leaves on the hour and takes a little over 1hr to get to Hoboken. The tour starts at 1:30PM and lasts 3.5 hours. This is a flat easy walk for everyone. The price is $51.80 for the tour & tasting. The train costs $10.30 round trip for everyone over 62. This tour is focused on smaller family owned businesses where tasting is available; such as Italian bread bakeries-hand made fresh mozzarella-cheese and last but not least Carlo’s City Hall Bakery along with points of local interest such as Frank Sinatra’s boyhood home. Ovi has assured me that no one needs lunch prior to the tour because you won’t be able to eat all of the tastings. When you go on-line to reserve your tickets, click on the May 14th date at 1:30 PM, the price has been changed to $48.00. There is also a processing fee for these tickets of $3.80 which will automatically be added to your total cost ($51.80). All day parking at the train station is $2.50.

Monday May 16, 2016 11 AM Trail Maintenance. & lunch at The Jefferson House: Please come and help with trail maintenance at Camp Jefferson. By keeping the trail around the lake clear (not a difficult job) we are able to have our meetings at Camp Jefferson without paying a fee. Let’s meet at 11AM outside Camp Jefferson. Bring gloves, clippers, bug spray and hat; if you have them. After, we can head to The Jefferson House and hopefully it will be a nice day so we can sit outside and enjoy the lake. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 10:30AM  Guided tour of New Jersey Botanical Garden and Skylands Manor, Ringwood State Park, Morris Road, Ringwood.  At the conclusion of the tours, we will have lunch (bring your own) in the picnic area above Shepherd’s Lake. After lunch, you can hike on the trails (walking stick would be helpful), stroll on the road leading to the manor house or around the manor house.  You can also bring a chair and sit by the lake to read or chat and enjoy the beautiful scenery.  Sturdy footwear is advised. For more info contact outdoorsinglefriends@gmail.com.  Via CR-511/ALT 511 north from Pompton Lakes, with the Wanaque Reservoir on your left, you will pass Skyline Drive on your right, then take the second right onto Sloatsburg Road.  Go about 2 miles, (past Hewitt School on your right, Carletondale Rd. on your right, and Margaret King Ave. on your left).  Take the next right onto Morris Road; Skylands is 1.25 miles up Morris Rd., at the top of the hill and parking is straight ahead on the left. Via 287 North or South and take exit 57. After exiting turn left from Rt 287 follow signs for Skyline Dr. Take Skyline Dr. up the mountain and back down, about 4.8 miles. At the traffic light (Erskine Rd) go straight, then turn right at the stop sign onto CR 511 (Greenwwod Lake Turnpike). Go about 1.5 miles. Take the second right onto Sloatsburg Rd. Continue as above to the parking lot..

 

Saturday May 21, 2016 11 AM Walk on Patriot's Path in Morristown & Lunch Meet at entrance to this section of the Path on Route 202 South (Speedwell Avenue), Morristown at 11AM. Coming from Route 10 take a right at Route 202(Speedwell Avenue). The Path, located beyond Morris Plains, is situated about one block on the right from Historic Speedwell (their number is 333 Speedwell Ave).  Or, if you are coming from the Morristown Green going north on Route 202,you will see the Path entrance just about a block before Historic Speedwell with the entrance on the left side. There's a winding, sloping driveway entrance with a gravel parking lot for free parking. A huge monument sits at the west side of the lot, you can't miss that. Dress for a slow, relaxed walk and bring appropriate gear, water, and snack. No flip-flops or pets. Bad weather cancels. Sunday May 22, 2016 4PM Presby Memorial Iris Gardens, Montclair, NJ Located at the base of the 7 ½ acres Mountainside Park  the Iris gardens contain over 10,000 irises with 1500 varieties. Thursday, June 2, 2016  10 AM Columcille Megalith Park (Stonehenge). This is an outdoor event located at 2155 Fox Gap Road, Bangor in eastern Pennsylvania on the Kittatinny Ridge of the Appalachian Mountains.  This park has been placed in conservation easement with Heritage Conservancy to ensure its preservation as a sacred space and outdoor sanctuary.  More information to satisfy your curiosity can be obtained on their website at columcille.org.  The terrain is a bit hilly and paths are natural so sturdy footwear is necessary (walking stick would be helpful).  We will have lunch in town at a 100-year-old hotel (at modest prices, your expense).  The park is free. Sunday June 5, 2016  11 AM Park Lake walk & Lunch. We will meet at the Gazebo. Once around the lake is ¾ of a mile, we will try to go around 4 times (you can go around as many times as you are capable of doing). After our walk we will go to the Pot Belly for lunch. Directions Take Rt. 80 to exit 35 toward the Rockaway Mall, left on to Mineral Spring Rd., right onto Fleetwood Rd. right onto Mt. Hope Ave. You can park on the right by the Gazebo. Sunday June 12, 2016 11AM Montville Picnic at the Montville Community Park. Admission is $6.00 and bring a dish to share. We will supply the hamburgers, hot dogs & the drinks. Directions: 287 North to exit 47 (Montville), at the end of the ramp turn left, go to the next light (Changebridge Rd) turn right. The park is approx 2 miles down on the left. Once you enter the lower parking area go past the rest rooms, following the road up to the back of the park area. The Pavilion is on your left. Area is flat, no stairs and plenty of parking. Wednesday, June 22, 2016  9 AM Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, 240 Main St.,Goshen, NY. The horses exercise on Golden Historic Track until noon, so arrive early to see them.  At noon we will enjoy a lunch of sandwiches, salads and dessert and at 1:00 we will have a guided tour of the museum and Hall of Fame. Price is $14.00. Saturday June 25, 2016 10:30 AM Princeton University Campus & Lunch. We will meet in parking lot #23 on the university campus where we will take a shuttle bus to an area of the campus that has some of the sculptures. The sculptures are scattered through out  the campus. After we have finished our leisurely walk we will head back to our cars and have lunch at the Witherspoon Grill.. Directions: Take 287 S to exit 17 for Rts 202 & 206 follow route 206 into the town of  Princeton make left onto NJ 27N then turn right onto Elm Dr. Keep on Elm until you come upon Parking Lot 23. . Sunday June 26, 2016 11 AM  Willowwood Arboretum in Chester. Please join us for a walk. There is an old country home with beautiful gardens and walking paths – signs are present to identify the various species.  Great chance to get some fresh air and see this historic place – PLEASE wear sturdy walking shoes. As a group we will decide where to eat lunch. DIRECTIONS: RT 80 W to RT 206 S continue on RT 206 thru Chester (about 3 Miles) Turn RT on Spring Lake Dr. go 1 block, turn LEFT onto Bamboo Ln to Stop Sign  Turn RT and WilloWood Arborteum will be on LEFT. . Saturday July 23, 2016 5:30 PM, Trilogy Repertory Theatre presents “In The Heights”, Plays in the Park Outdoor Amphitheater, Valley Road, Basking Ridge, NJ.   Admission is FREE.  Meet at 5:30 PM for an 8:00 PM show.  You need to come early to set up your chair and reserve your space at the amphitheater.   This has been a favorite event for many years.  Bring a picnic meal, non-alcoholic beverage, lawn chair, sweatshirt/jacket, and flashlight.  We eat in the picnic area near the amphitheater.  There are also paved walking trails.  Rain cancels.  Sign-up sheet will be at our meetings. . Sunday July 24,2016 Hudson Valley Chalk Festival Water Street Market on Main Street in New Paltz, NY. They will have live music, a raffle, face-painting, and many more fun activities for everyone. They will have 21 professional artists this year from all around the United States to create some wonderful works of art. We will meet at 11:00 AM in front of the Water Street Market Entrance in New Paltz, NY. Then at around 1:30PM we will have lunch at a local restaurant. .
