Sunday August 31, 2014 10 AM Lafayette Village Walk and Lunch. We will meet at the Rt 94 side of Lafayette Village by the Lafayette House. We will walk the trail, if it is dry, and then after we will have lunch in the Village. Rain will cancel. For more information contact us.


Sept 2 - 5, 2014   Niagara Falls & More Wow did that time go by fast as we are now ready to talk about where we will be picking up the bus. Bus leaves at 8:15 sharp from the Hilldale Presbyterian Church,  85 Ridgedale Ave.,  Cedar Knolls.  Please try to car pool.   Directions:  287 South to Exit 39B (Rt. 10 West).  Stay to the extreme right when on Rt. 10. Pass 1 light and get off at the 2nd exit which is the  Ridgedale Ave. Exit. Go under bridge and get back onto * Rt.  10 East.  Stay in right lane and make a right at the traffic light (Ridgedale Ave.)  Go to the 2nd light and make a left (Elm Ave.)  and a quick right into the church parking lot. The Hilldale Church is next to the Notre Dame Church and is directly across from the Cedar Knolls Fire House. REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT * Route 10 East follow above directions.  Mike from Longs Travels cell # Is  973-270-6591.


Sunday September 14, 2014 Montville Picnic at the Montville Community Park. Admission is $6.00 and bring a dish to share. We will supply the hamburgers, hot dogs & the drinks. Directions: 287 North to exit 47 (Montville), at the end of the ramp turn left, go to the next light (Changebridge Rd) turn right. The park is approx 2 miles down on the left. Once you enter the lower parking area go past the rest rooms, following the road up to the back of the park area. The Pavilion is on your left. Area is flat, no stairs and plenty of parking. We need everyone to bring a chair to sit on. Please contact us.


Sunday, September 21, 2014, 2 p.m.  Hermann’s Original Royal Lipizzan Stallions of Austria Horse Show, Lord Stirling Stable, 256 South Maple Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ.  Plan to arrive no later than 1:30 p.m.  as this is a popular event.  Unreserved bleacher seating is in an enclosed area.  Meet in front of the arena (green pillared building).  Advance tickets are $20 per person.  Sign up at the picnics  or contact us.   Payment must be received no later than September 10.  No refunds after September 10 unless you have someone to take your place.  Carpooling is suggested.  Please let us know if you will be joining us for a meal at a local restaurant following the show.  Directions to the restaurant will be available the day of the event.  Directions to Lord Stirling Stable:  I-287 South to Exit 30A (N. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge).  Follow off ramp, go under overpass, straight through traffic light and follow into town.   At the fork, bear left to stay straight on South Maple Ave.  The stables are less than a mile ahead on the left. 


Saturday, September 27, 2014 9/11 Memorial & Museum and Lunch. Be one of the first 25 to see the completed memorial and museum.  The cost is $89.00.This trip will be handled through Lakeland Bus. There will be three departure points:

Dover Terminal                                   Departure 10:05AM   Return 6:05PM

Rockaway Mall Lot #36                     Departure 9:50AM     Return 6:15PM

Please note your departure location on the sign up sheet. Before arriving at the memorial & museum we will lunch at Ryan Maguire’s a local favorite in the Financial District of New York. When you sign up for the trip, please note your entrée choice on the sign up sheet.  The choices are: Shepherd’s Pie – Chicken in a Lemon Thyme sauce – Salmon in a dill mustard sauce.  Each meal comes with a salad, your entrée, cheesecake and soft drink, coffee, or tea. Our guide will lead us from the entry point through security providing commentary relevant to the memorial, but will allow you to explore the memorial on your own. Thursday, October 2, 2014    10:30AM Guided tour of Long Pond Iron Works, West Milford, NJ.  Guided tour of Long Pond Iron Works, Hewitt (West Milford), NJ.  Begins at 10:30 a.m. from the visitors center (approx. 1to 1 ½ hours). LONG POND IRON WORKS STATE PARK, Greenwood Lake Turnpike, Hewitt NJ DIRECTIONS:  Take I-287 to Exit 57 (Skyline Drive) and continue on Skyline Drive to its western end at Greenwood Lake Turnpike (County Route 511) in Ringwood. Turn right and proceed for about 4.6 miles to the parking area for the Long Pond Ironworks visitor center (the parking area is on the right, immediately after crossing the Monksville Reservoir (water on both sides of bridge), and is marked by a large sign saying “Long Pond Ironworks Historic District.” Those attending will receive a map to Ringwood Manor after Long Pond tour. Following the tour we will move to the Ringwood Manor picnic area a few miles away to enjoy the bag lunch that you will bring. A tour of the Ringwood Manor house will follow at 1:30 p.m.  A goodwill donation would be appreciated for LPIW, and there will be a $3.00 fee for tour of Ringwood Manor House. Saturday October 4, 2014  10:00AM Silas Condit Park  Kinnelon Walk & Lunch  Directions Take RT 23 North or South to Kinnelon Rd. Up the hill thru 3 traffic lights to William Louis Arthur Drive. Entrance to Park is on the Right, after the little Cemetery. After the walk we will lunch at one of the eateries in the shopping mall on Rt 23. Rain will cancel. For more info, please contact us.


 Sunday October 5, 2014 Whippany Train Ride, Museum & Breakfast 10 AM  We will meet at the Brookside Diner at 10AM on Rt10 in Whippany. After breakfast we will proceed to the train station. If interested, go on line to purchase your train ticket, a cost of $14.00 (tickets@whippanyrailwaymuseum.net). You will pick up your tickets 30 mins. before the train departs. Thursday October 9, 2014 10:00AM Walk AT Ramapo Valley County Reservation& LUNCH. We will meet in the parking lot at 10:00 AM for a walk on the beautiful grounds of the Reservation and afterwards have lunch nearby at the Mason Jar in Mahwah.   Directions:  I-287 North to Exit 58, at end of ramp make a left.  At the next traffic light make a left onto Rt. 202. About 5 miles down on the left you will see the signs for the Reservation. Rain date October 16. Sunday October 12, 2014 11:00 AM Camp Jefferson Meeting & A Sing-A-Long &Trail Maintenance Please bring bug spray, hat, gloves and clippers so that you can help with the trail maintenance. Directions to Camp Jefferson:  Take Route 80 from either direction to Route 15 North.  Take 15 North to Weldon Road (which is approx. 5 miles north of Route 80).  The Weldon Road exit from Route 15 is immediately after the Lake Shawnee exit.  Proceed on Weldon Road 7/10 of a mile. Camp Jefferson will be on the left.  Turn in and proceed to the log cabin buildings. Park in the established parking spots. 


Friday October 17, 2014 Wawayanda Walk & Lunch 10:30AM  We will meet at a 10:30AM in the main parking lot by the beach. The trail is about 2 miles and has a LONG STEEP HILL.  Bring bug spray, hat, good walking shoes(sneakers) , walking stick and Senior state park pass(if you have one - there is no fee to get one if you are 62 or older)  We will lunch afterwards at the Doo Woop Cafe on Union Valley Road in the Bearfort Shopping Center(lower level). Saturday October 18, 2014 GREAT JACK O-LANTERN BLAZE IN CROTON-ON-THE HUDSON, NY  The Jack - O - Lantern Blaze on October 18th is SOLD OUT ! If any one else is interested in attending they will need to contact Lakeland Bus Lines directly at  973-366-0600 x602 to see if they have any additional seats available. This is a rain or shine event - so dress accordingly...   Departure Places are:

Rockaway Mall - lot #36 Leaving 1:55 PM Returning 10:10 PM

Dover Terminal -Leaving 2:10 PM Returning 10:05 PM

Arlington Plaza -Leaving 2:30 PM Returning 9:45 PM   We will arrive at Croton-on-Hudson, NY 4:30PM dinner will be at Fino's Resturant (tax and gratuity included). Everyone can order their meal from the selections listed below at the restaurant: Tossed salad with balsamic herb dressing, Dessert and coffee/tea are included. Choice of entrees are:
1. Chicken Martini- breast of chicken with a parmagiano batter sauteed with white wine - lemon & peas
2.  Red snapper in a light tomato broth, garlic, white wine, herbs and little neck clams 
3.  Penne ala Vodka
Tour begins at 6:30PM, it takes 45 minutes, to 1 hour to complete tour. We will be leaving at  8:PM for home 

Sunday October 26, 2014 Three Mile Walk to End Alzheimer’s 8AM  Bergen Community College, Paramus.Join the 2014 OSF walking team and participate in a 3 mile non-competitive walk to support research for a cure to end Alzheimer's. The walk will take place at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Rd., Paramus 07652 at 10AM. All participants must preregister, on line at alz.org/walk or complete a registration form which can be obtained from Team Captain, A donation payable to Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter via check or credit card is suggested. Please note OSF team on memo line of your check. Once you have registered please contact us. The walk is on college campus which is flat & is actually short of 3 miles. Rain or shine we will meet at Waterview Park & Ride on Rte 46 East at 8Am to carpool to Paramus. Final registration as a team will take place on campus at 9AM.

Sunday November 9, 2014 Thanksgiving Feast at Camp Jefferson  Price is $10.00/person to attend (payable at the time you sign up) - everyone needs to bring a dish to share;  appetizer - vegetable - potatoes - side dishes - meat - dessert. If you are going to bring a Dessert, please contact us. You must call and let them know what you will be bringing. Make your check out to OSF and mail to Fritzi Garvey at 61 Princeton Place, Wayne, NJ. 07470.All hot foods need to be brought in aluminum pans that will be given out at our October meeting for everyone to use so they fit in the sterno trays for serving,  please have them there by 10:30 so Joan Behonick can have everything heated in the oven prior to serving.  All meats need to be cut and turkey's carved. There will be sign up sheets at our September/October meetings for people who would like to help with set-up/clean-up and serving. We also need someone to create the decorations for the tables. Call Sharon Mahedy at 973-334-2594 if you would like to do this. We can only have 80 members attend due to fire regulations so sign up early!!!!!
